At Snapper Services, our vision is to create excellent experiences in public transit that accelerate our journey to a more sustainable world and 2024 has been no exception. This year, our Mosaiq Transit Intelligence Suite continued to support transit operators and authorities in streamlining services, driving efficiency and ultimately enabling an excellent public transit experience.
A major milestone for us this year was expanding our data processing capabilities. The Mosaiq platform now handles an impressive 3 billion heartbeats per month across 25 million trips, and this number keeps growing every month. This increased capacity enables us to deliver even more precise insights, empowering transit authorities and operators to make smarter, data-driven decisions that boost both service quality and operational efficiency. With these insights, Mosaiq is helping unlock the full potential of public transit systems, driving continuous improvements in both day-to-day operations and long-term planning.
And that’s just one part of the story. We’ve also forged exciting new partnerships, rolled out innovative product features, and expanded into new regions, all while keeping our focus on building more sustainable and efficient public transit systems.
Strengthening partnerships and collaborations
Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do, and 2024 has been a year of both new partnerships and deepening existing relationships. We were thrilled to welcome Optibus as a new partner this year, combining its AI-powered transit planning with Mosaiq’s advanced data insights to create even more value for operators and authorities.
We’ve also continued our strong collaborations with Vix, AWS, and other key players in the industry. These partnerships have been invaluable in helping us deliver innovative solutions to public transit agencies across the globe.
In addition to this, we’ve focused on listening to feedback from Mosaiq users like Tower Transit and West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). This ongoing dialogue has been essential in ensuring that we’re meeting the real-world needs of operators, authorities, and their communities. By learning from their experiences, we continue to evolve Mosaiq into an even more powerful platform.
Launching the Mosaiq Global Public Transit Index
A big highlight this year was the launch of the Mosaiq Global Public Transit Index, which set out to answer a simple yet crucial question: What does ‘On-Time’ really mean for public transit? We found that the definition of ‘On-Time’ varies greatly depending on where you are. For example, what’s considered On-Time in Tokyo might differ significantly from Washington, with on-time window differences being as much as seven minutes.
We analysed data from eight cities and regions around the globe to compare real-time first-stop data to planned schedules. The results were surprising, showing that performance varied significantly depending on how 'On-Time' was defined. You can read all the results and download the report for free here.
What’s next for the Global PT Index?
The Mosaiq Global PT Index is just getting started, and we’re really excited about the next phase. We’ll be releasing quarterly updates, with the next report coming in the first quarter of 2025. We’ll build on our initial findings, track trends over time, and add even more locations to expand the scope of the index.
We can’t wait to see how the next edition unfolds and encourage you to stay updated by subscribing to receive the latest insights directly to your inbox.
Innovation in the UK public transit market
2024 brought significant changes to the UK public transit landscape, especially with the shift towards bus franchising and devolution. These changes present both challenges and opportunities for local authorities and transit operators, and we’re excited to be part of the solution. We’ve been working closely with WYCA as they navigate the transition to franchising. You can learn more about their journey here.
This year, we also introduced several new features to Mosaiq Insights, including Contract Management, On-Time Performance over time, Stop Details, and Running Times. These updates help operators and authorities gain deeper insights into their operations, making it easier for them to optimise public transit systems and continuously improve service delivery.
Collaborating with public transit partners around the world
2024 also saw our team travel to events across Europe, from Berlin to Gothenburg, Birmingham to Strasbourg, showcasing the Mosaiq Transit Intelligence Suite. These events offered valuable opportunities to connect with other transit professionals, share insights, and strengthen relationships with stakeholders in the public transit sector.
A fun highlight this year was the I Love Buses event swag, designed by our New Zealand based design team. It was a hit at every event, sparking great conversations and helping us connect with even more people in the industry.
We've also made great strides in new markets like the US and UAE, where we celebrated our first customers in partnership with Optibus. These milestones expand our global reach and highlight our ability to meet different regional needs.
Expanding our team to support global growth
As our business continues to grow, so does our team. In 2024, our UK team doubled in size, which means we’re even better equipped to support our global expansion and ambitious goals. This year also saw visits from our colleagues in New Zealand, which strengthened our internal collaboration and reinforced our commitment to working as a unified global team.
Looking ahead to 2025: more innovation and growth
Looking ahead, we’re filled with optimism about what 2025 holds. The achievements of 2024 have set us up for even greater growth and impact in the coming year. We’re particularly excited about the next edition of our Global Public Transit Index, which will offer even more insights and in-depth analysis.
We’re also committed to continuing our innovation journey, developing new features that help transit authorities and operators optimise their systems, improve services, and ultimately create more efficient, sustainable public transit networks.
