Interchange UK 2025 wrap: Franchising, data and the future of public transport

From the outset, the tone was clear: franchising is here, and for some, it’s already working - especially in Manchester, where the Bee Network is setting the standard. Our Mosaiq Global Public Transit Index: Spotlight on England highlighted TfGM’s exceptional early-running performance, with less than 1% of buses running ahead of schedule. It’s a small number with big impact, as an early-running service can disrupt passenger trust, so getting it under control is a major win.

Policy and planning discussions dug deep into how to balance innovation with accessibility. One consistent message stood out: public transport is for everyone. There’s no single solution, and success lies in continuous, evidence-based improvement.

Which brings us to data, the backbone of so many conversations, from infrastructure planning to cross-regional collaboration. High-quality data allows for better decisions, better operations, and ultimately, better journeys. We’re proud that the Mosaiq Transit Intelligence Suite is helping support this shift, but there’s more to do, especially in improving the quality and availability of open data.

As we wrapped up our time at the event, one thing was clear: Interchange UK has become a key event on the ITS calendar. With a diverse audience, from mayors to product users, it created a dynamic space for meaningful discussion and knowledge sharing. High-quality panels and roundtables sparked big ideas, while top-tier exhibitors like Podaris, City Science, Mott MacDonald, and AWS added depth and valuable opportunities for collaboration.
